What is called Seating Arrangement?

Seating arrangement is also referred to as sitting arrangement reasoning or sitting arrangement.
There are different kinds of arrangements:
Linear arrangement: In this type of arrangement the candidates have to arrange the persons in a single line. So the formation of a single row is called linear arrangement.
Double row arrangement: In this type, two groups of people will be given in the question. Candidates have to arrange one group in one row and the other group in another row. The faces of the two rows normally face each other.
Circular arrangement: Circular seating arrangement is nothing but the candidates have to arrange the people around a circular table under certain conditions.
Rectangular arrangement: This is the same as circular arrangement but the sitting of the persons are around a rectangular table.
Example:
Abhi, Dev, Anan and Sai and Mano are sitting on a bench. Abhi is sitting next to Dev, Anan is sitting next to Sai, Sai is not sitting along with Mano who is on the left end of the bench. Anan is in the second position from the right. Abhi is to the right of Dev and Mano. Abhi and Anan are sitting together. In which position Abhi is sitting?
Options:
- Between Dev and Sai
- Between Dev and Anan
- Between Mano and Sai
- Between Anan and Mano
The answer is option (b). The question states that all five are sitting on a bench. So it is clear that it is a linear arrangement. As below, by arranging everything as per the hints in the question, it can be easily understood.
Mano→ Dev→ Abhi→ Anan→ Sai
So clearly Abhi is sitting in between Dev and Anan.
